WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!
Volunteer hours are flexible - simply let us know what day(s) work best for you.
Weekday Mornings, Early Afternoons
WE NEED DRIVERS & KITCHEN HELP
Kitchen Helpers: Shift 1: 8:00-10:00 Shift 2: 10:15-Noon
Drivers: 11:00 - 1:00
Each weekday morning, teams of kitchen volunteers prepare both hot and cold meals for delivery.
During the lunch-hour, the volunteer drivers, using their own vehicles, deliver the meals.
The drop-off to our clients provides not only an important opportunity for a wellness check but a few minutes of social chit chat between an appreciative client and the Meals on Wheels volunteer.
Volunteering is Fun!
CLIENT SPOTLIGHT
“The convenience of the meals is priceless, I greatly enjoy the meals and the variety. The pasta dishes, especially the ravioli, are my favorite”, says Meals on Wheels participant Tony Viggiano.
What Tony enjoys the most are the volunteer drivers. He is pictured here with volunteer driver Mike. He looks forward to seeing them and their visits.
Tony also values the relationship he has built with his Case Manager, Amanda. He feels like he is in good hands when she helps him out and is very thorough. He definitely looks forward the calls and visits, and that she looks out for him like his daughter does.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Dick Kelly started driving as a substitute driver for Meals on Wheels of Eastern Onondaga County in 1992 about a year after retirement.
Dick now drives the Bridgeport route and enjoys the relationships that he has formed with the client’s he delivers to over the years. He says the hardest part is watching his dear friends pass away. Dick applies the “use it or lose it” rule to his own life and stays busy with weekly lunches, golf games and poker with friends.
Dick resides in Fayetteville with his wife of 70 years this year. We thank Dick for his many years of service and look forward to many more ahead!
